There are two categories of templates in Doorways. Report templates and Letter templates. Letter templates always need a household reference in order to be generated. Reports can be generated with no references to a specific household.

Default Templates Cannot be Edited

In order to make edits to a default template, you must download the default template from Doorways, make edits in Microsoft Word, and Upload the new template with a new name. For information on edits, see Creating a New Template.

Letter Template List


















A. Template Search: Click in this field and type the name of the template you are looking for.

B. Template Tag Select: Click the dropdown to select a tag. This will narrow the template list down to only the templates that were given the selected tag.

D. Template Info: Each row is for a different Letter template. Information includes the Name, Upload Date, and Description.

E. Tags: List of tags each template is associated with. The tags associated with your template dictate which merge fields auto populate. 

F. Edit: Click the pen icon to edit the name and/or description of a template. This feature is only available for templates that are not a part of the "default set". In other words, you can only edit templates that were added by users.

G. Download: Click this icon to download a copy of the template in Microsoft Word format. This will most often be used in the case of making edits to a default template

H. Archive: Clicking this icon will move the template to the Archived (J) section of the template roster. This option is available only for default templates and only for Admin users.

I. Delete: Click this button to delete the template completely. This feature is only available for templates that are not a part of the "default set". In other words, you can only delete templates that were added by users.

J. Archived Templates - All templates that have been archived by an Admin will show up in the Archived Templates section. These templates are not available for use unless unarchived. 

K. Unarchive - Clicking this button moves the template back into the available templates section and allows the user to use the template again. 

Guide to Adding a New Letter Template

1. From the user dropdown in the top right choose Letters and Report Templates. 

A. Select File - You can either click the blue link to upload a template or drag and drop it into the outlined box. 

B. Name Template - Name the template something identifiable, concise, and descriptive. 

C. Description - Include a description for the template, especially if there are multiple templates that could be the same thing. 

D. Template Tags - The tags associated with a template allow you to filter to these templates but also dictate which merge fields will auto fill in the letter. 

E. Formats - Here, you can decide whether you want the template to download just to PDF, just to Word, or to both. This feature is only available on custom letters. 

F. Default Email Subject - This section allows you to pre-define the email subject line when emailing a tenant. This is editable in the moment while sending the email. 

G. Default Email Body - Fill out the body of your default email template here. You can change the wording in the moment while sending the email. 

H. Cancel or Create Template - Select Cancel to cancel the creation of your template or Create Template to proceed with the template creation. 

2. Click the New Template button (C in the graphic at the top of the screen) 

3. Drag and Drop, or select a file from your computer to upload.(A) 

4. Enter a Name for the New Template. (B) 

5. Optional, add a description or explanation. (C) 

6. Select tags that apply to the New Template. (D) 

7. Select whether you want to be able to download the template as a PDF and a Word format. The default option is PDF. (E)

8. Optionally, you can add a default email for this template (F-G) 

9. Click Create Template 

10. Success! The template has been added, and you will be redirected to the template list.

Report Template List
